I went to the animal fair

November 27, 2008 § 1 Comment

I went to the animal fair,
The birds and the bees were there,
The big baboon, by the light of the moon, combing his golden hair.

The monkey fell out of his bunk bonk,
Slid down the elephants trunk,
The elephant sneezed and fell to his knees
and what became of the monkey monkey monkey monkey…?

This is one of my all time favourites. Perhaps it was popular in the late 70s when I was a kid, as I know lots of adults who know it, but don’t hear it sung much any more.

Once the kids know it it becomes popular with them as well because there are action to go with it, combing hair, sliding down the trunk. It is also a kind of introduction to part singing, because one group can carry on singing ‘monkey monkey monkey monkey’ while another group sings the song again.
