Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle

Listen to hey diddle diddle

Hey diddle, the cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon,

The little dog laughed to see such sport

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

A wonderful old nonsense rhyme, which pops up again and again. I know two tunes for this one, and there are likely more, as it has been around for a long time, first appearing in print c. 1765. The Oxford Dictionairy of Nursery Rhymes tells me that a lot of nonsense has been written about it as well! All sorts of political meanings have been ascribed to it, probably incorrectly.
